A new resource - www.newsela.com ! to promote non fiction articles on various reading levels lfor students to read about current events and take a short quiz afterwards. The beauty of this site is that students choose their own reading selections. Subject headings include: War & Peace, Science, Law, Kids, Money, Health, and the Arts. You can set up classrooms and the students create their own user id and password. Reports can be generated to show student participation and progress. A great formative assessment. The quiz structure is tied to the Common Core and targets reading skills.
I'm Heeru Bhojwani, Information Curator & Coach/ Librarian at the American School of Bombay. I appreciate the value of teamwork and global interaction with learning. I believe that education is the only important element in raising the bar of human existence and quality of life. In an evolving role of a librarian, I understand that strong work ethics, flexibility and enthusiasm are keys to the success of our evolving new role of a librarian in the web 3.0 or 4.0 world. Through this blog I intend to share my thoughts, views or tools that I come across in my journey.
